About the project

In today’s digital environment, digital skills and competences go beyond simply being aware of digital tools, knowing how to use them or integrating them into everyday life. They also involve understanding and addressing the challenges associated with their responsible use, particularly in relation to privacy, ethics, online safety and emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The Safety NET project aims to strengthen the capacity of youth organisations and youth workers across Europe to use digital tools safely, ethically and effectively in their daily work with young people. It addresses existing gaps in knowledge, skills and practical strategies, equipping youth workers with the necessary resources and guidance to protect personal data, promote ethical digital practices, identify potential online risks and make informed decisions when using digital technologies.

Through the development of educational resources, practical tools, collaborative learning opportunities and support mechanisms, the project seeks to foster a safer, more responsible and inclusive digital environment within youth work. By empowering youth organisations and youth workers to integrate digital safety and ethics into their practices, Safety NET contributes to the development of young people’s digital competences and supports the broader objectives and priorities of the Erasmus+ Programme.

Expected results

The Safety NET project aims to achieve the following results:

  • Mapping of existing practices and policies: A comprehensive overview of current capacities, tools, practices and regulatory frameworks related to the safe, ethical and responsible use of digital tools and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  • A support system for youth organisations: Practical resources, guidance and standardisation models to help youth organisations integrate safety, privacy and ethical considerations into their digital activities.
  • Stronger digital competences in youth work: Enhanced knowledge and skills among youth workers and youth organisations across Europe to use digital tools and AI safely, ethically and responsibly.
  • Policy recommendations: Evidence-based recommendations to promote common standards for digital safety, privacy and ethics in youth work and in policies supporting youth organisations.
  • Awareness and advocacy: Increased awareness among youth organisations, youth workers and policymakers of the importance of responsible digital practices, alongside advocacy for relevant policy improvements at local, national and European levels.
